If you have been considering starting a low carb weight loss plan and have been doing some research, you will have seen the claims that this approach to weight loss can be very fast and effective. However, what happens once you have lost weight? Do you return to what you now consider "normal" eating and put all the weight back on? Or do you keep the weight off by never eating carbs again? Is that something you are really prepared to commit to?
Well, the answer is actually somewhere in between the two. You can never go back to eating all the carbs you want again, because you will regain the weight, but you can certain eat a lot more carbs than in the weight loss phases to maintain your weight, you just need to control the amounts.
Protein Low Carb
Most low carb diets such as the Atkins Diet have a final "maintenance" phase, which you go into once you have reached your ideal weight and which you effectively adopt as your approach to eating on a permanent basis. The good news is, this is nothing like the initial extreme weight loss phases where you can eat almost no carbs at all. Long term, this would not be good for you because of the vitamins and minerals you would be missing out on by heavily restricting your vegetable intake, and also, there is a point where you will want to stop losing weight and stay as you are, which will require you to eat more carbs.
Because everybody's body is different, the way that you work out how many grams of carbohydrate per day you can eat without losing or gaining weight, is via an experimental phase before Maintenance which is called Pre-Maintenance. During this phase you strictly control but gradually increase the amount of carbs per day you eat on a week by week basis, and monitor the effect it has on your weight. If you lose weight, you put the carbs up for the next week. If you gain weight (and don't worry, it won't be much in one week of slightly increased carbs, you're not undoing your good work) then you know that is too many carbs for you for weight maintenance.
Once you know how many grams of carbs are just right for you, all you have to do is stick to that and your weight won't change. Of course, you may find over the years that you begin to put on weight as you age, or become less active, and in those cases you may need to go through the experimental process again to find your new optimum carb intake.
Nobody is perfect, and over a lifetime of trying to live low carb there are bound to be times when you over indulge, perhaps over the holidays or on vacation. What a lot of people do, when this happens, is go back and do the Atkins induction phase again for two weeks as a quick fix, before returning to their usual optimum carb intake. As long as you keep a close eye on your weight and address any weight gain before it gets too serious, there is no need to ever be fat again.

Christmas Sales MSM Low Carb Protein Vanilla, 28.54 Ounce Overview
Low Carb Protein delivers a unique source of protein by combining a highly refined Ultrafiltered, Whey Protein Concentrate, Instantized Calcium Caseinate and Cross Flow Microfiltration and Ion-Exchange processed Whey. This unique blend offers a sustained release of "Fast & Slow" proteins, meaning that the amino acids enter the bloodstream at differents rates. This allows for higher amino acid concentrations in the blood for longer periods of time, therefore, increasing nitrogen retention. Low Carb Protein is also remarkably high in Branched Cahin Amino Acids (BCAAs), which are the most required amino acids needed to replenish muscle stores that are utilized during strenuous exercise.SAVE NOW on Christmas Sales Offers below!
